Sometimes the paranormal is in the mind and sometimes it’s real. Telling the difference isn’t always easy. It wasn’t for John Satori. After a brain scan he sees the unreal. He always thought that killing was just a job. Now he’s paying the price, when his past ghosts catch up with him.

An independent supernatural thriller mystery like no other.

Attachment-1 (1)

Hey you readers! Here’s to 2019 being full of health and happiness for you.

So I’m back after a full year break. As you know, I like to be interactive in my work and value your input. There are three amazing stories I have in mind and I am leaving it up to you to choose which novel/work you’d want to read in 2019/20. The three choices are as follows, so please comment or drop a note on my website or email me:

1. THE LONGEST NIGHT.

Scripts in book format appear to be on the rise. I suppose they’re more digestible and put you closer to the voice of the characters. It’ll be my full screenplay of my thriller film that had a fantastic talented cast. It’s about an American detective who travels to the Britain to help find a missing woman but in the process embarks on a journey of self discovery and redemption.

2. Untitled BLOOD HUNGER sequel.
Blood Hunger is my most successful novel to date but I left it on a cliffhanger reveal of sorts, even though there are clues in my other novels of what became of the players it’s void of what happened to the main characters only the underpinning sub-characters and their world. It’ll be the continuing vampire thriller about a country haunted by vampire violence and murder.

3. RIVERSIDE HOTEL. Amongst my many projects in development over the years this was one of my first and favourite. It put me in touch with legendary author James Herbert, and was touted around the film industry. (Imitated and borrowed, I never saw a penny). I’ll rework to remove some of the elements of this ghost story that have been ‘borrowed’ in the past to give it a fresh overhaul.

So over the next few weeks let me know which one or maybe there’s something else I’ve missed. I will complete/the novel with the most interest over the next year.

FAQ’s:

Q: Why not The Final Version 2 or a Darkest Moons follow up, even another Dead Pulse novel?
A: After the year that was 2018 I’m not ready to pen what would be back to back Darkest Moons books. Darkest Moons took a lot out of me and Final Version was research intensive along with the film and video work I’ve made. I am excited about writing follow ups to either one of these books but just not ready at this time. With Dead Pulse, after speaking to George Romero’s widow, for me- creatively zombies died when the genre’s legend passed away.

Q: Why are A. M. Esmonde novels no longer being sold in stores?
A: All of my novels ARE available in stores but would need to be ordered in via the store for you to collect. I don’t mention this as Amazon e-books are available and they usually do free shipping on paperbacks. Also I’d rather sell them directly to you, signed and on request via my website than fight for shelf and stock space and have you visit the store more than once.

The publishing industry has changed. Publishers are no longer offering the kind of advances necessary for authors to make a lively hood to support their families. Agents don’t have power they once did. The market is saturated. Games now rule. There are authors who pump out a new book every three months, sometimes hire ghostwriters, which is not my thing, (I was one of those ghostwriters). As you know, my novels are incredibly imaginative and can take years to complete.

Q: How are these books published?
A: There’s no easy answer. I’ve been under contract, which three of the novels were tied to. However, AM to PM is a publisher with editors, artists located in Wales and Europe. Even known publishers have moved to print on demand similar to Warner Bros. DVD production. Quality of the finished product is a given. Many pay for ISBN numbers to appear published. Many publishers do this themselves offering authors a raw deal. I found this out the hard way. Once my contract commitments were fulfilled and rights reverted back I didn’t want to be in a position to beg ‘Publishers’ and/or rely ‘Agents’. It can be detrimental and a struggle but many authors and artists in many mediums have been successful without selling out, or compromising their story/vision. Mine did well in their chart rankings more so when going solo.

Please let me know what you fancy reading. There is more coming, you got me this far and its up to you to decide what’s next.

This pretty neat The Final Version novel page has been brought my attention. It has been going a few years and contains some good observations and facts about the book by readers. I’ve copied and excerpt below.

• It is difficult to pin point when WWIII occurs, however, whatever destructive device was used left buildings standing. This leaves the remaining survivors (who have converged on a few remaining city’s world wide) have whole buildings to live in to themselves. To benefit for this arrangement occupants seemingly have to adhere to the consistent surveillance/monitoring. It echoes Blade Runner and Aeon Flux in chapters, with hints of The Thing and Mad Max in others.
• Denton visits every continent.
• Given it is set post WIII the future appears quite habitable (excluding the wastelands and industrial areas). State Side while the rain beats down there are while plastic pavements/side walks and Neon lights have made a come back.
• It’s a ‘kitchen sink’ book as it has so much in it. However, it’s pulls off bringing the sci-fi elements, (not limited to) A.I, cloning, cryogenics and Robotics together with the historic chapters and the events that are touched on subtly which include the discovery of DNA, Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, Anastasia’s disappearance, Spanish Conquistadors encounters, painter Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio’s fate to name a few.
• Religion is outlawed and practised by underground sects. Notbaly the MJ and King sect.

1119f-deadpulsejulilandkarliemontanaDead Pulse ranked in the top 40 horror eBook chart and went out of print Halloween just past. Those who have been keeping tabs my zombie novel I thank you, especially those who have read it.

With the publishing industry in its roller-coaster evolving state it makes sense for me not to go with a publishing house for the second edition of Dead Pulse. Jumping through the book markets/convention hoops has lost its fun and appeal. Also given the offers so far it would mean the novel’s 2nd edition would not be published until (at the earliest) February 2016. Going independent possibly means a Spring- Summer 2015 release and having the control and perks I have with The Final Version. It avoids the publishing house pitfalls and issues that I’ve encounter with a smaller independent publishers.

Dead Pulse is having a minor re-edit (with the help of a top individual) correcting some issues sadly missed with the 1st edition (it happens to the best) and adding some beats so that the entire book meshes seamlessly. You see, when the first publishing option ended, I realised that I am not the same writer I was ten years ago when I first sat down at my word processor and put my faith in other editors and indie horror publishers for Dead Pulse. After Blood Hunger, The Final Version and my film work I am now a more seasoned author. I’m looking forward to offering Dead Pulse reinvigorated and refined.

In addition, I hope to add new original cover artwork which I’m currently on the hunt for (artists get in touch you may have something great and suitable in a draw). The result hopefully will be a different reading experience.

Dead Pulse will be initially sold at first as an early bird numbered, personalised and signed copy via myself direct. Only 500 copies are being printed at first and each book will be hand numbered in sequential order, personalised with a message of your choice and signed. Once the books are sold out, that is it. If you would like purchase a copy keep following on twitter @amesmonde or follow the blog as I’ll be posting details on how to reserve a copy next year.

That’s all folks

In time for my favorite time of year, early I know but we’ve already put the Halloween decorations up in my home!

The rights to both vampire thriller Blood Hunger and zombie chiller Dead Pulse have reverted back to myself. After this Halloween the novels will become unavailable.

They possibly may be resurrected in second editions depending on publishers. While the first editions satisfy, in retrospect their not as polished from an editing standpoint as I would have wished but no use crying over spilt milk. Still they’re entertaining horror travel reads. Even the industry’s big players are feeling the pinch and its difficult for the most seasoned authors to earn a crust so I’m not holding my breath for the novels to be picked up.

All is not lost in a shallow grave my sci-fi novel The Final Version is being well received. Again thank you for reading, thank you for your support and have fantastic Halloween.

An interesting story was brought to my attention this morning, Shock Till You Drop talks about what Frank Darabont envisioned in Season 2 Walking Dead, this originated from a communication to Aint it Cool News.

‘Darabont’s’ idea mirrors my zombie horror Dead Pulse. Granted Dead Pulse is a homage to Romero, but Dead Pulse is an original piece of work. I should also mention I’ve never read the Walking Dead Comics.
Before I go on here’s a little background to what happened last year. After the Comic Con in 2011 Ben Davis, AMC vice-president of scripted programming, gathered the cast together for a meeting. In this meeting, he told that Darabont had been fired. Saying “This isn’t working.” And Darabont was ‘let go’.

Part of Darabont’s concept explained to Ain’t It Cool News is a follows:

“We’d start with a squad of maybe seven or eight soldiers being dropped into the city by chopper. They have map coordinates they need to get to; they’ve been told to report to a certain place to provide reinforcement. It’s not a special mission, it’s basically a housekeeping measure putting more boots on the ground to reinforce key intersections and installations throughout the city. And we follow this group from the moment the copter sets them down. All they have to do is travel maybe a dozen blocks, a simple journey, but what starts as a no-brainer scenario goes from “the city is being secured” to “holy shit, we’ve lost control, the world is ending.”

Our squad gets blocked at every turn and are soon just trying to survive. I wanted to do a really tense, character-driven ensemble story as communications break down, supply lines are lost, escape routes are cut off, morale falls apart, leadership unravels, mutinies heat up, etc.” and goes on to say,

“So the story follows these soldiers through hell as the city falls apart and the squad implodes, with Sam’s soldier being the main character and the moral center of the group. He becomes the last survivor of the squad, and he finally gets to the map coordinates they’ve been trying to get to from the start.”
This raises some questions given that my story was banded around ‘Tinsel Town’. Prior to the zombie boom!
It’s odd that through a series of unfortunate events that my story (written in 2007) that contains the above was erroneously published in 2009, I would mention the book because I wouldn’t want any one to purchase it in that state, it’s unedited and incomplete (and goes for around $156 – Do not buy this!)

In March 2011 Dead Pulse was published on paperback and on a variety of e-book platforms and contains the very same segments from the 2007 albeit expanded, edited correctly and this time authorised. Anyone who has read Dead Pulse will immediately realise that Frank’s description bares an uncanny  striking similarity to the Ravenswood massacre chapter where a small group of the soldiers are sent  to the city on what should be a simple mission to retrieve information and goes terribly wrong.

The cast of The Walking Dead were told Frank was fired by ‘scripted programming’ section. By default see why ‘his’ wild card’ didn’t make it into Season 2.

To get a feel of Dead Pulse’s tone and to see some of the similarities here’s the trailer or for curiosity get the book free with Amazon prime here:

Why do writers write? Whether it’s fiction or nonfiction, poetry or plays, writers use words to transport readers, inform readers or entertain readers and from the simplest blog post to the greatest novel, it’s emotionally satisfying. I did it because I had a story to tell. After a failed attempt of writing simply to satisfy what publishers thought the readers wanted I set out to write something that I would enjoy reading myself and hoped others would too. Below I’ve touched on what inspired me to write each book and what the books are about…
With Blood Hunger by default you’ll find elements of pop culture hits Twilight, True Blood, Vampire Diaries due to their source material but what I’ve set about doing with Blood Hunger is give a fresh reinvention of the vampire legend. As well as traditional folklore I’ve encompassed the spirit of Bram Stoker’s novel ‘Dracula’, Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu’s novella ‘Carmilla’. The story premise is that of

Iliana and her sister’s journey to the United Kingdom, news that the ‘Ice Prince’ had been discovered ceases their many years of blood abstinence and they unleash a bloodthirsty terror on humankind leaving a trail of death from London to the Welsh countryside.

From the fall of the vampire and the Dracul brothers in medieval Europe to their return in the present day. Prepare yourself, their first bite will be your last!
Also you can sink your teeth into a bloodthirsty, gruesome and vicious comic tale adaptation.

With DEAD PULSE I set about to re-imagine and pay homage to George A. Romero undead. Lucio Fulci films also inspired the zombie horror adventure.

The world’s focus is on the city of Ravenswood and the once idyllic town of Farmore as platoons and scattered survivors fight the hordes of the dead, unbeknownst one of them holds the key to end the undead’s reign of mayhem.
Across the city at a body disposal plant a small group take shifts on the ‘death watch’. Their hopes hinge on the soldiers of Farmore to rescue them. But with no contact for months, no food and surrounded by the dead, have they got what it takes to survive?

With death at their door, only time can tell…

The Breathing Dead Tales encompasses both books and is only available as an eBook exclusive to Amazon. With them both read together you can see the subtext of how they are ‘linked’ ever so slightly.
I hope you enjoy the books as much as I did writing them. Please leave a review wherever possible and spread the word. Thanks
